HOD'S Welcome Note

Welcome to the Department of Marketing, Procurement and Supply Management. The Department is one among the five departments in the Faculty of Business and Information Sciences (FBIS). Since its establishment, the Department has become a source of qualified, skilled and resourceful marketing as well as procurement graduates. Equipped with competent and renowned Lecturers the department has done a number of research projects and consultancy projects relating to marketing and public procurement. Currently the department has 16 members of academic staff constituting one professor, two senior lecturers, 10 lecturers and three assistant lecturers. Plans are underway to recruit more members of staff in order to increase the workforce and efficiency.

The Department is continually striving to excel in teaching, research and consultancy which are going to be achieved through focusing at staff training so as to acquire the highest academic qualifications, seeking and executing research projects, undertaking consultancy projects as well as cooperating with other national and international institutions and associations both academic and non-academic. The farfetched goal is to become the best provider of marketing education and procurement education as well in the country and thereby producing graduates with competence paramount for solving society problems and contribute towards building the nation’s economy and the world at large.

Overview of the Department

The Department is one of the five departments under the Faculty of Business and Information Sciences. It is one of the first departments established during the transformation of the then Co-operative College Moshi to Moshi University College of Co-operative and Business Studies (MUCCoBS) in 2004 which later following institutional transformation was upgraded to a full-fledged University (Moshi Co-operative University) in 2014. The Department has two units (Marketing and Procurement) and is mandated with teaching, research and consultancy relating to marketing and procurement management. Currently, the Department runs two undergraduate degree programs namely the Bachelor of Arts in Procurement and Supply Management (BA-PSM) and Bachelor of Marketing and Entrepreneurship (BA-ME). Also, the Department runs one master programme namely Master of Arts in Procurement and Supply Management. Through running these programs the Department has enables the University to receive a number of awards overtime from the Procurement and Supplies Professionals and Technicians Board (PSPTB). The awards were provided to recognise the outstanding performance of BA-PSM and MA-PSM Graduates in the professional examinations offered by PSPTB.

Academic Programmes

Master of Procurement and Supply Management (MA-PSM)

This is a full time 2 years program under the semester system (3 semesters in the two years of study). The first 2 semesters are used for course work while the remaining semester is used for research project. The program started to be offered in 2012 and produced first graduates in 2014. The program nurtures experts in the field of procurement and supply management who are expected to be competent and ethical Procurement and Supply Professionals. Applicants should have obtained a Bachelor Degree with a grade point average of lower second and above or Equivalent Qualifications. The equivalent qualifications include CPSP, MCIPS, CPA, ACCA and other professional qualifications that will be reviewed and considered to be relevant at the time of application. Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between July and September. Detailed information about the application procedures and requirements are always provided through the university website and other outlets approved by the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies (DRPS).

Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Management (BA-PSM)

This is a full time 3 years program under the semester system (six semesters in the three years of study, thus 2 semesters for each academic year). The program started to be offered in 2005 and produced first graduates in 2008. The program nurtures experts in the field of procurement and supply management who are expected to be competent and ethical Procurement and Supply Professionals. Applicants should have obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in 4 approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 4.0 points in relevant subjects. Those with Equivalent Qualifications, it should be at least a Diploma from an accredited/recognized institution of education with not less than 3.0 grade point average and 4 passes in relevant subjects from CSEE examinations. Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between June and September. Detailed information about the application procedures and requirements are always provided through the university website and other outlets approved by the Directorate of Undergraduate Studies (DUS).

Bachelor of Entrepreneurship and Marketing (BA-ME)

This is a full time 3 years program under the semester system (six semesters in the three years of study, thus 2 semesters for each academic year). Students And Alumni

The Department has students in the First, Second and Third year the undergraduate programs (Bachelor of Arts in Procurement and Supply Management and Bachelor of Marketing and Entrepreneurship) as well as First and Second Year students in the postgraduate program (Master of Arts in Procurement and Supply Management). Our alumni include all students who pursued and graduated Bachelor of Arts in Procurement and Supply Management since 2008; Bachelor of Marketing and Entrepreneurship since 2013; and Master of Arts in Procurement and Supply Management since 2014. Most importantly, some of the alumni are working at the University as Academic Staff and Administrative Staff as well.
