Programme Overview

The Diploma in Library and Information Science (DLIS) is a four-semester programme designed to orient students into various dimensions of locating, organizing, and managing information and knowledge resources. It provides a strong theoretical and experiential foundation to meet the community and employment demands for trained professionals in Library and Information Science. Graduates of this programme will be equipped with the skills to manage libraries, information centers, and knowledge resources effectively.

Specific Objectives

The specific objectives are to:

  • Provide a strong theoretical and practical foundation in Library and Information Science.
  • Prepare graduates to meet the demands of communities and employers for trained professionals in this field.

General Entry Requirements

  • Direct Entry: NQF Level 5 (Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education) with at least one principal pass and one subsidiary in any subject.
  • Equivalent Entry: NTA Level 4 or any appropriate Basic Certificate passed at 2nd class and accredited by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).
