Programme Overview

The Bachelor in Community Economic Development (BCED) programme is designed to equip undergraduate students with the skills and knowledge to address complex issues in national and international community economic development. Graduates of this programme will be prepared to perform community economic functions in various sectors, including community and social services, local government, humanitarian organizations, CBOs, FBOs, NGOs, aid work, economic and social planning, sustainable development, and indigenous governance. The programme emphasizes practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and a multidisciplinary approach to foster sustainable and inclusive economic growth in communities.

Specific Objectives

The specific objectives are to:

  • Equip students with the skills to address complex issues in community economic development at national and international levels.
  • Prepare graduates to perform community economic functions in various sectors, including social services, local government, and NGOs.
  • Develop expertise in economic and social planning, sustainable development, and indigenous governance.
  • Foster a multidisciplinary understanding of community development challenges and solutions.
  • Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth in communities.

General Entry Requirements

  • Two principal passes in the following subjects: History, English Language, Kiswahili, Geography, Commerce, Economics, Accountancy, Advanced Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Nutrition, Agriculture, Chinese, or French.
  • Equivalent qualifications, such as a recognized diploma in Community Development, Social Work, Economics, Business, or related fields, are also accepted.
  • Applicants with strong analytical and numerical skills will have an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in English is required for all applicants.
