Marwa N. Kesanta is an Assistant Lecturer at Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) and he is teaching economics courses under the Department of Economics and Statistics to non-degree, degree and post-graduate diploma students. He holds Master’s Degree in Economics from Mzumbe University and a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA).

In addition to teaching, he is serving as the Head of Extension and Outreach Department under the Institute of Co-operative Continuing Education (ICCE) since August, 2020 to date. He served as Coordinator for Co-operative Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre (CEIC) from October 2019 to August 2020. He has been in public service over eighteen (18) years and before being employed at MoCU, he worked under Kahama Town Council as a Town Council Co-operative Officer (2017 – 2019). He worked at the Cooperative Development Department and then the Tanzania Cooperative Development Commission under the Ministry of Agriculture where he served in the capacity of a Co-operative Officer (2005 – 2010), Senior Co-operative Officer (2011 – 2014), Principal Co-operative Officer and acting Assistant Registrar (Head of Financial Co-operatives Regulatory Section from 2014 – 2017) at the Commission level. He was the coordinator and focal person for various consultancies/interventions undertaken by international and local organisations for Cooperative development (including WOCCU for Strengthening SACCOS supervision, MIVARF for Rural SACCOS development and FSDT). He has also undertaken various activities including trainings and consultancies on co-operatives; governance, entrepreneurship, investment, microfinance, cooperative legislation, member-based policy formulation, economics as well as supervision of cooperative and member-based organisations. He was involved in formulation and translation into Kiswahili various policies such as Cooperative Societies Act No.6 of 2003, Cooperative Societies Regulations of 2015, SACCOS Regulations of 2014, SACCOS supervisory manuals and Memorandum of understandings. He was a member of National Microfinance Technical Committee and National Market Conduct Supervision (Financial Consumer Protection) Committee (2013 – 2016) under Bank of Tanzania. He has experience in working with financial institutions and worked as loan officer at National Microfine Bank (NMB) Ltd (2003 – 2005).
