Program Overview

The Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) is a three (3) years programme designed to equip undergraduate candidates to deal with complex legal issues in the national and international competitive labour markets. Graduates in this programme will be able to practice different legal functions. The programme provides thorough basic training in law to prepare graduates who can honestly participate in the administration of justice. Through the programme, theoretical and practical principles and legal skills are developed including critical thinking skills, legal research skills, analytical skills, counseling skills, advocacy skills, record-keeping skills, negotiation skills, drafting skills, and procedural skills.

Program Objectives

  • To equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in various areas of law including contract law, criminal law, civil law, constitutional law, and international law.
  • To develop critical thinking, legal research, and analytical skills, ensuring that graduates are prepared to address complex legal challenges.
  • To provide students with practical legal skills such as advocacy, negotiation, and drafting, which are essential for effective legal practice.
  • To prepare students for professional legal practice, making them competent in the administration of justice in national and international contexts.
  • To foster an understanding of ethical considerations and responsibilities within the legal profession.
  • To develop the necessary skills for effective communication, advocacy, and legal counseling in various settings, including courts, corporate environments, and government institutions.

General Entry Requirements

  • Two principal passes in the following subjects: History, Kiswahili, English Language, French, Chinese, Geography or Economics.
  • Equivalent qualifications, such as a recognized diploma in law is also accepted.
  • Proficiency in English is required for all applicants.
