BACHELOR DEGREE PROGRAMMES (Three Years)

Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance

Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance (BA-AF) is a fulltime three year degree programme. The programme is designed to equip the graduate with skills necessary to deal with multifaceted issues in accounting and finance at the national and international business environment. It equips graduates with a blend of accounting and finance knowledge and skills so as to become professionals in their field and ensure that they uphold ethics relevant to the accounting profession. Graduates in this programme will be able to perform accounting and finance functions in all forms of public and private organizations. Specifically, graduates can be employed as accountants, auditors or finance managers. Graduate can also go for self employment as business consultants in accounting and finance field.

Applications for admission to the BA-AF programme are usually invited once in a year for applicants with minimum entry qualifications. For direct entry, applicants should have obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination or equivalent with credit pass in three approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination or equivalent and at least two Principal level passes with a total of at least 4.5 points in relevant subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination. For indirect entry, applicants should have at least a Diploma in accounting or related field from an accredited/recognized institution with GPA of 3.0 and above and must have four credit passes in relevant subjects in their O’ level. Bachelor of Arts in Cooperative Management and Accounting

Bachelor of Arts in Co-operative Management and Accounting (BA-CMA) is a three year degree program full time and evening mode. It is designed to enable graduate to understand that Co-operative is a business like other business organizations and a hub for human development. The program prepares the graduate to work in different carrier employment like Co-operatives, Banking, and Government and Non Government institutions. The program focuses on the different strategies, procedures, management of Co-operative and Business organization. It equips a graduate with knowledge in Business management, Co-operative Management, Microfinance management, accounting and finance aspect of the business. Graduate can be employed as Co-operative Managers, Business Managers, Accountants, finance officers, Projects officer and financial analysts. The programme further offers opportunities in self employment as consultants, trainers and researchers in different areas of Co-operative and Business management and Accounting.

Applicants for the program should have obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in five approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 4.0 points in relevant subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). For those to be admitted with Equivalent Qualifications, it should be at least a Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Microfinance, Business Administration from an accredited/recognized institution of education of not less than 3.0 GPA and an ‘O’ level credit pass of at least D grade in Mathematics.

Bachelor of Economics (BEC)

Bachelor of Economics (BEC) is a three-year degree programme developed to equip candidates with a blend of economics and financial knowledge and skills. Likewise, it will enable candidates to uphold ethics relevant to the economics profession in a myriad of disciplines including economic research, co-operative societies, finance and banking, economic policy analysis in both governmental and non-governmental organizations. The programme aims at equipping candidates with appropriate knowledge, attitude, skills and values to enable them contribute to social and economic development at the individual, community, national, and global level. Graduates in this programme will be able to initiate, establish and manage economically business enterprises, empower entrepreneurs to take up any economic challenges arising from their business, and may be employed in various economic sectors, including governmental, non-governmental and international organizations as well as generating their own self-employment.

Applications for admission are normally invited once a year between July and September. For direct admission, applicants should have at least two principal passes in Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSE) in the following subjects; economics, mathematics, commerce, accounts, physics, chemistry and geography with the total points of 4.5 and above. Applicants for equivalent qualifications should be a holder of relevant diploma or other equivalent qualifications from the recognized institutions or professional boards.

Bachelor of Community Economic Development (BCED)

This is an existing programme since the year 2008. It is a full time three years programme under the semester system. Applicants for BCED should have obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in five principle subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two principal level passes and a total of at least 4.5 points in principle subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE); University Qualification Framework (UQF) level 6 (Ordinary Diploma) and NTA level 6 (ordinary diploma) that is relevant to the programme and should have at least four passes at Ordinary level (NQF level 4). Recognition of prior-learning (RPL): Applicants should have an average of a B+ grade in relevant courses.

This programme was designed to equip undergraduate students to deal with complex issues in the national and international community economic development. Graduates in this programme will be able to perform community economic functions in community development. Specific objectives shall be to: Equip candidates with a blend of community development knowledge and skills so as to become professionals in their field; Enable candidates to uphold ethics relevant to community economic development; Address both the global and national professional requirements for best practices in community economic development; and Inculcate entrepreneurial attitudes to candidates.

Admission Requirements for this programme include: An Advanced Diploma from recognised institutions of higher learning or a Bachelor degree from recognized institutions of higher learning.

Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Entrepreneurship

This is a fulltime three-year program under semester system (six semesters in the three years of study). The program nurtures experts in the field of marketing and entrepreneurship. Graduates are highly expected to be entrepreneurs and employ themselves through forming business ventures. Also, they can be employed as marketing managers or officers in both public and private institutions.

Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between June and September. Applicants should have obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in 4 approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 4.0 points in relevant subjects. Those with Equivalent Qualifications, it should be at least a Diploma in Procurement and Supply Management or Business Management or Marketing or Accountancy from an accredited/recognized institution of education with not less than 3.0 grade point average and 4 passes in relevant subjects from CSEE examinations. Bachelor of Arts in Procurement and Supply Management

This is a fulltime three-year program under semester system (six semesters in the three years of study). The program nurtures experts in the field of procurement and supply management who are expected to be competent and ethical Procurement and Supply Professionals. Graduates can be employed as procurement managers or officers, supplies manager or officer, logistics managers or officers. They can also employ themselves as consultants in procurement and supply management.

Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between June and September. Applicants should have obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in 4 approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 4.0 points in relevant subjects. Those with Equivalent Qualifications, it should be at least a Diploma Procurement or Marketing or Accountancy or Economics or Productions Management any Business Management related programmes from an accredited/recognized institution of education with not less than 3.0 grade point average and 4 passes in relevant subjects from CSEE examinations. Bachelor of Arts in Microfinance and Enterprise Development

Bachelor of Arts in Microfinance and Enterprise Development (BA-MFED) is a three-year programme (six semesters) designed to enable candidates undertake analytical diagnosis of management and financing problems facing small and micro-enterprises and provide viable solutions. The programme equips candidates with knowledge, skills, and attitude for dealing with complex issues facing microfinance and small enterprises in a competitive environment by providing critical thinking ability, problem solving skills, and development of appropriate business attitude. It also provides for self confidence building, subject matter competence and innovation for progressive change in the microfinance industry and in small and microenterprises. The Programme prepares individuals to work in both urban and rural settings and offers graduates with a range of career employment opportunities as managers in SACCOS and other microfinance institutions, financial institution specialists, managers in small enterprises and banks with microfinance windows, financial NGOs and a variety of government and private institutions. Graduates of this programme can be employed as credit managers, loan/credit officers, business planners, bank assistants, co-operative officers, managers and finance managers in small enterprises, and can employ themselves as initiators and owners of microfinance institutions, consultants in business planning, trainers and financial analysts.

Applicants should be holders of a Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) or equivalent with five passes in approved subjects and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 4.5 points in relevant subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (ACSEE) or a Diploma in Microfinance Management (DMFM), Diploma in Co-operative Management and Accounting (DCMA), Diploma in Enterprise Management (DEMA) or any other relevant diploma from any accredited/recognized institution.

Bachelor of Science in Business Information and Communication Technology

Bachelor of Science in Business Information and Communication Technology (BSc BICT) is a full time three-year program under semester system. This program is designed to equip students with strong ICT skills and knowledge for designing and managing contemporary business applications, analyzing and solving ICT-related business problems as well as offering advisory services in issues related to ICT applications in business. Possible job titles for BSc. BICT include Software Developer, Database Administrator, Computer Hardware Engineer, Computer Systems Analyst, Computer Network Administrator, Web Developer, Information Systems Analyst, and Computer Programmer.

Direct Admission Requirements for BSc. BICT are Credit Passes in Mathematics and English at O-level plus at least two principal passes at A-level in Accountancy, Economics, Mathematics, and Commerce, the sum of which should not be less than 4.5 points. Applicants with principal passes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and English language may also be considered. Equivalent qualification for the BSc. BICT is a relevant Diploma from any other accredited institution or recognized professional examination boards. Applications for admission are normally invited once a year between July and September. Bachelor of Human Resource Management (BHRM)

This is a six semesters programme which is equivalent to three years.
Admission Requirements
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with two principal passes in the following subjects: History, Geography, English Language, Kiswahili, Economics, Accountancy, Advanced Mathematics, Commerce, Physics, Biology, Chemistry or French and Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or Foundation Programme of the Open University of Tanzania (OUT) with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Programme Objectives

The programme’s major objective is to educate and train students in human resource so as to provide quality education that can produce highly motivated individuals so that they can provide professional expertise to personal, business and industry in the area of human resource. The specific objectives are to:

• Develop knowledge of human resource management and organizational development interventions and their role in building leadership skills and capacity;
• Equip candidates with competence-based skills, practical knowledge on principles and techniques required in human resource management and organizational development;
• Address both the global and national professional requirements by incorporating global best practices and models of excellence;
• Prepare students as a critical thinker around ethical issues involved in organisational development and change;
• Ensuring HR programs and services are in compliance with established policies and procedures and state laws and regulations; and
• Empower students in making decisions and implement solutions involving human resources and organisational structures through innovative analysis and diagnosis.

The programme driven by the philosophy that; the programme should not only be to enhance the experience the students but also to improve human resource management approaches. The commitment of the department, faculty and the university at large should be to help students to learn how to structure their experiences and learn more skills that should support to develop their carrier endeavour.

Bachelor of Laws

Bachelor of Laws (Legum Baccalaureus, LL.B) is a three-year degree program offered in English language under the Department of Law. Our Department is known for intensive and high-quality teaching of legal education that carters for the need of national and international labour market by offering variety of legal courses pertaining to domestic and international law courses. MoCU has peculiarity of teaching Co-operative law.

LL.B is designed to prepare professional lawyers to work in different settings as Advocates, Corporate Counsels, Lecturers, Courts and other domestic and International Judicial and Quasi Judicial Bodies’ as Judges, Arbitrators or Officers. LL.B aims at building a global society governed by the rule of law hence we prepare our students to become leaders of their communities where they can promote the law and its principles effectively. Above all, the University offers Legal Clinic Services through Staff and students established Legal Aid Clinic Centre.
