CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES (One Year)

Certificate in Accounting and Finance

Certificate in Accounting and Finance (CAF) is a one year programme (two semesters) intended to enable students provide hands-on operational and middle-level services in small and the micro-enterprises. The Programme equips students with knowledge and skills to handle lower level basic accounting and finance functions in organizations by collecting, recording, processing and storing properly all necessary accounting and financial information and data and prepare books of account and financial reports. While the programme links students to Diploma programmes, graduates of this programme can be employed as book-keepers, finance assistants, assistant loan/credit officers, tellers in SACCOS and other microfinance institutions, book-keepers, and as managers in micro enterprises

Applications for admission are usually invited once a year between July and September. Applicants should be holders of a Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) or equivalent with at least four passes in approved subjects, any other relevant O’level certificate from any accredited/recognized secondary school, or any other qualifications as shall be determined by the relevant authorities.

Certificate in Co-operative Management and Accounting

Certificate in Management and Accounting (CMA) is a one year program full time and evening mode. It is designed to enable graduate to understand a business organization in its general context in terms of management and accounting. The program prepares the graduate to work in different carrier employment like Co-operatives, Banking, and Government and Non Government institutions as clerk. It equips a graduate with a little knowledge in Business management, Co-operative Management, accounting and finance aspect of the business. Graduate can be employed as Co-operative officers, Business officer, assistant Accountants, finance clerk, and Projects officer. The programme is a bridge for graduate to undertake further studies at Diploma level.

Applicants for the program should have obtained a a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in five approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) .Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between June and September. Certificate in Microfinance Management

Certificate in Microfinance Management (CMF) is a one year programme (two semesters) intended to enable students provide hands-on operational level services in the management of microfinance institutions operations. The Programme equips students with knowledge and skills in the management and promotion of microfinance institutions both in rural and urban areas, assist micro-enterprise institutions to identify and evaluate income generating projects, and develop and market microfinance institutions’ products. While the programme prepares students to join Diploma programmes, graduate of this programme can be employed as assistant loan/credit officers and tellers in SACCOS and other microfinance institutions.

Applicants should be holders of a Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) or equivalent with at least four passes in approved subjects or any other relevant O’level certificate from any accredited/recognized secondary school or any other qualifications as shall be determined by the relevant authorities.

Certificate in Enterprise Development

Certificate in Information Technology

Certificate in Information Technology (CIT) is a full time one-year program under the semester system. Graduates of this programme will be equipped with basic knowledge and skills in database designing and management, network design and management, systems analysis and design, software development as well as computer troubleshooting and maintenance.

Applicants for Direct Admission to CIT should be form four leavers with four passes in Mathematics, Bookkeeping, Commerce, Physics, Geography, Chemistry, History or Biology. Applicants for Equivalent qualification should be Form IV leavers with ATEC I, or with NABE stage I or II, or with Pre-foundation certificate of the National Board for Materials Management (NBMM) OR any other equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution. Certificate in Human Resource Management

Certificate in Human Management (CHRM) is time one years program under the semester system, The programme has a total of 120 credits. It is designed to impart the knowledge, education and skills necessary to meet the human resource challenges of today’s rapidly changing workplace and workforce. The programme provide a strong foundation in current HR best practices, and is aligned with the Society of Human Resources Management behavioral competencies. The knowledge developed in the program is also helpful to professional managers who can benefit from having Human Resources as a facet of their management expertise. While a human resource management certificate is usually designed for new and those already working in the field, after completing a program, individuals may qualify for advancement or additional duties. Individuals are prepared for work in corporations, non-profit organizations, government agencies and small businesses. Completing a certificate program can allow individuals to qualify for certification exams, upgrade current certifications, move from another field to human resource management, and qualify for promotion.

Certificate in Library and Information Sciences

Certificate in Library and Information Sciences (CLIS) is a one year programme. It is designed to enable graduates to work in Libraries, Archives and Information centers. The programme focuses on equipping graduates with necessary skills for running day to day library and information center activities associated with information services delivery. The training emphasis is put on ability to compete effectively in the field of library and information science. Graduates can be employed as Library Assistants, Record Assistants, Archivists, Information Brokers.

Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between July and September. Applicants should have a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with at least four (4) passes from any recognized institution OR equivalent qualifications

Certificate in Coffee Quality and Trade

Certificate in Coffee Quality and Trade (CQT) is a one year certificate programme. It has been designed to provide the coffee industry with competent human resources who can perform various operational and routine functions to meet expected goals. With the everlasting demand for coffee in global market, it necessitate presence of qualified personnel to work in coffee chain so as to bring the best quality to market while also facilitate access to better prices to those producing. Generally, the programme aims to impart and improve the knowledge and skills required in whole process of managing coffee quality, cupping and trading.

The programme prepares individuals to; acquire skills and knowledge in coffee quality, cupping and trading; become innovative in initiating, managing and sustaining viable coffee business enterprises; address challenges in the coffee labour market and; enhance professionalism and build capacity of stakeholders in the coffee industry. Graduates from this programme can work as supporting operational managers/supervisors in coffee factories, coffee quality assurance officers in coffee factories, coffee plantations and agricultural marketing co-operatives (AMCOS) producing coffee. They can also works as advisors and supervisors in coffee markets/auctions and coffee exports business. The programme also offer opportunity to graduates to become business advisors/consultants and trainers to AMCOS, coffee companies and plantations on matters relating to coffee quality and trading.

Applicants should have Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education (OCSE) with at least FOUR passes at D level and above in following subjects; English, Bookkeeping, Commerce, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Agriculture and Biology. The points are counted as; A=5, B=4, C=3, D=4, E=1 and, S=0.5 OR, the candidate should have Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSE) with at least two principal level passes in either of the following subjects; Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Agriculture, Economics, Nutrition and Biology. The total points from the principal level pass should not be less than 2.0 OR, any other equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
