Department of Accounting (ACC)

Overview of the Department

I honestly feel greatly honored to welcome you all to the Department of Accounting of the Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU). The Department is under the Faculty of Cooperative and Community Development (FCCD). This is one among the four departments of the Faculty. The Department is currently running a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance (BA- AF) programme. The department is waiting for approval of one degree programme and two non degree programmes.

The Department has qualified lecturers, researchers and consultants in various areas of accounting and auditing and taxation. Some of them are professional accountants in public practice (CPA- PP). The infrastructures available at MoCU offer conducive environment for students to carry on their studies. The library services available offer a wide range of accounting, auditing and taxation materials. Lecture and seminar rooms are conducive for students to comfortably learn. Moreover, ICT facilities are also available and students can communicate and access various materials online.

The Department is striving to excel in teaching, research and consultancy. To achieve the aforementioned the Department staffs are focusing at staff highest academic qualifications, seeking and executing research and consultancy works as well as co-operating with other accounting institutions. The department also works closely with professional boards at national and international level including National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) respectively.

We are working hard to achieve our goals and aspiring to the best provider of accounting education in Tanzania thereby producing graduates who can contribute in building our nation and our world. We welcome you all to our Department.

Academic Programmes

Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance (BA AF)

This is a full time three years program under the semester system. There are six semesters in the three years of study. Applicants BA-AF should have obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with credit in three approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 4.5 points in relevant subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). For those to be admitted with Equivalent Qualifications, it should be at least a Diploma in accounting and related diploma programme from an accredited/recognized institution of education with GPA of 3.0 and above and must have four credit passes in relevant subjects in their O” level – Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE)
Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between July and September. The detailed information about the application procedures and requirements are usually stated through the University main website and many other outlets.
