HoD’s Welcome Note

Overview of the Department

I sincerely feel greatly honored to welcome you all to the Department of Co-operative Development and Management (CDM) of the Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU). The Department is under the Faculty of Co-operative and Community Development (FCCD) and one amongst the four departments of this Faculty. It is the oldest department since the then Moshi Co-operative College and Moshi University College of Co-operative and Business studies (MUCCoBS).

The Department has qualified lecturers, researchers and consultants in various areas of co-operatives, community, development studies, research methods, project planning and consultancy services. The infrastructures available at MoCU provide conducive environment for students to carry on their studies. The library services available offer a wide range of teaching materials. Lecture and seminar rooms are conducive for students to comfortably learn. Moreover, ICT facilities are also available and students can communicate and access various materials online.

The Department is striving to excel in teaching, research and consultancy. To achieve the foregoing, we, at the Department, have staff with relevant academic qualifications, seeking and executing research and consultancy works as well as co-operating with other institutions, both academic and non-academic, nationally and internationally.

We are working hard to achieve our goals and aspiring to the best provider of Co-operative education and Training in Tanzania thereby producing graduates who can contribute in building our nation and our world. We welcome you all to our Department.

The Department of Co-operative Development and Management has a long history of existance. It is one of the four departments under the Faculty of Co-operative and Community Development (FCCD) at Moshi Co-operative University. The Department is key to co-operative teaching, research and consultancy across the University. Currently, the Department runs five programmes namely the Certificate in Management and Accounting (CMA), Diploma in Co-operative Management and Accounting (DCMA), Bachelor of Arts in Co-operative Management and Accounting (BA-CMA),Post-Graduate Diploma in Co-operative Business Management (PGD-CBM), Masters of Arts in Co-operative and Community Development (MA-CCD) and PhD in relevant discpline.

Academic Programmes

Master of Arts in Co-operative and Community Development (MA CCD)

This is both full time and Evening mode two year programs under the semester system. There are two semesters and Dissertation writing in the two years of study. Applicants for the program should have obtained a Bachelor Degree, Advanced Diploma and Post graduate Diploma from a reputable and recognized Higher learning institution. Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between June and September. The detailed information about the application procedures and requirements are usually stated through the University main website and many other outlets.

Postgraduate Diploma in Co-operative Business Management (PGD CBM)

This is both full time and Evening mode one year program under the semester system. There are two semesters and Research writing in the two years of study. Applicants for the program should have obtained a Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma from a reputable and recognized Higher learning institution. Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between June and September. The detailed information about the application procedures and requirements are usually stated through the University main website and many other outlets.

Bachelor of Arts in Co-operative Management and Accounting (BA CMA)

This is a full time and Evening mode three years program under the semester system. There are six semesters in the three years of study. Applicants for the program should have obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in five approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 4.0 points in relevant subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). For those to be admitted with Equivalent Qualifications, it should be at least a Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Microfinance, Business Administration from an accredited/recognized institution of education of not less than 3.0 GPA and an ‘O’ level credit pass of at least D grade in Mathematics.
Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between July and September. The detailed information about the application procedures and requirements are usually stated through the University main website and many other outlets.

Diploma in Co-operative Management and Accounting (DCMA)

This is both full time and Evening mode two years program under the semester system. There are four semesters in the two years of study. Applicants for the program should have obtained a a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in five approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 1.5 points in relevant subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). For those to be admitted with Equivalent Qualifications, it should be at least a Certificate in Accounting, Finance, Microfinance, Business Administration from an accredited/recognized institution of education of not less than a PASS and an ‘O’ level credit pass of at least D grade in Mathematics.
