HoD’s Welcome Note

Specific Functions

The Readers Service Department is responsible for acquisition of library materials and record keeping. Acquisition of library materials consists of listing, ordering receiving and processing of all document collections.

• Process order requests including verification of bibliographic information.
• Receive items including timely processing of all received publications, i.e. recording, cataloguing; classification, indexing, abstracting and constructing annotated bibliography.
• Acknowledge and process gift materials
• Provide current awareness services through make library users informed about arrival of new publications and maintain current information of books on display.
• Examine acquisition renewal notes and subscription lists to determine the rate of demand of publications.
• Provide bibliographic access to collection.
• Conducting stocktaking and stock counting.
• Conduct final check of permanently processed and prepared material for accuracy and completeness and distribute processed materials to appropriate locations.
• Review database transactions for accuracy, completeness and consistency.
• Maintain shelf list and evaluate materials following retention procedures.
• Circulation of library material this includes check in and checkout of borrowed materials
• Re-shelving library materials used by readers. This involves shelving of newly received materials, books returned and read by users. The purpose is to ensure that every library material is in the right place so that retrieval can be facilitated
• Provision of user education programmes. This include orientation programme whereby fresh student and other users are introduced to the library users are demonstrated about how to use Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)
• Provision of information services
• Maintain library use statistics and evaluation of services

Academic Programmes

Master of Arts in Co-operative and Community Development (MA CCD)

This is both full time and Evening mode two year programs under the semester system. There are two semesters and Dissertation writing in the two years of study. Applicants for the program should have obtained a Bachelor Degree, Advanced Diploma and Post graduate Diploma from a reputable and recognized Higher learning institution. Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between June and September. The detailed information about the application procedures and requirements are usually stated through the University main website and many other outlets.

Postgraduate Diploma in Co-operative Business Management (PGD CBM)

This is both full time and Evening mode one year program under the semester system. There are two semesters and Research writing in the two years of study. Applicants for the program should have obtained a Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma from a reputable and recognized Higher learning institution. Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between June and September. The detailed information about the application procedures and requirements are usually stated through the University main website and many other outlets.

Bachelor of Arts in Co-operative Management and Accounting (BA CMA)

This is a full time and Evening mode three years program under the semester system. There are six semesters in the three years of study. Applicants for the program should have obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in five approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 4.0 points in relevant subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). For those to be admitted with Equivalent Qualifications, it should be at least a Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Microfinance, Business Administration from an accredited/recognized institution of education of not less than 3.0 GPA and an ‘O’ level credit pass of at least D grade in Mathematics.

Diploma in Co-operative Management and Accounting (DCMA)

This is both full time and Evening mode two years program under the semester system. There are four semesters in the two years of study. Applicants for the program should have obtained a a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in five approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 1.5 points in relevant subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). For those to be admitted with Equivalent Qualifications, it should be at least a Certificate in Accounting, Finance, Microfinance, Business Administration from an accredited/recognized institution of education of not less than a PASS and an ‘O’ level credit pass of at least D grade in Mathematics.
