DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES (Two Years)

Diploma in Co-operative Management and Accounting

Diploma in Co-operative Management and Accounting (DCMA) is a two year program full time and evening mode. It is designed to enable graduate to understand that Co-operative is a business like other business organizations and a hub for human development. The program prepares the graduate to work in different carrier employment like Co-operatives, Banking, and Government and Non Government institutions. It equips a graduate with knowledge in Business management, Co-operative Management, Microfinance management, accounting and finance aspect of the business. Graduate can be employed as Co-operative officers, Business officer, assistant Accountants, finance clerk, and Projects officer. The programme is a bridge for graduate to undertake further studies at Degree level.

Applicants for the program should have obtained a a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in five approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) or equivalent; and at least two Principal level passes and a total of at least 1.5 points in relevant subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE). For those to be admitted with Equivalent Qualifications, it should be at least a Certificate in Accounting, Finance, Microfinance, Business Administration from an accredited/recognized institution of education of not less than a PASS and an ‘O’ level credit pass of at least D grade in Mathematics.
Applications for admissions are normally invited once a year between February and September. The detailed information about the application procedures and requirements are usually stated through the University main website and many other outlets.

Diploma in Microfinance Management

Diploma in Microfinance Management (DMFM) is a two-year programme (four semesters) designed to enable students provide hands-on solution to management and financing problems facing small and micro-enterprises. The programme equips students with knowledge, skills, and attitude for dealing with practical managerial and financing issues facing microfinance and small enterprises in a competitive environment. It also provides knowledge and skills in developing and pricing of microfinance products appropriate for microfinance industry in a developing microfinance system. The Programme prepares individuals to work in both urban and rural settings and provides graduates with a range of career employment opportunities as managers in small and medium-sized SACCOS and other small microfinance institutions, managers in small enterprises, tellers and operators in banks with microfinance windows and in financial NGOs. While this programme provides a link to a degree programme, graduates of this programme can be employed as loan/credit officers, book-keepers, bank assistants, Assistant co-operative officers, managers in small enterprises, and can employ themselves as trainers and financial analysts in a microfinance sector.

Applications for admission are usually invited once a year between July and September. Applicants should be holders of a Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) or equivalent with a minimum of four passes in approved subjects and at least one Principal level pass and a subsidiary making a total of at least 1.5 points in relevant subjects in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (ACSEE) or a Certificate in Microfinance Management (CMF), Certificate in Accounting and Finance (CAF), Certificate in Management and Accounting (CMA), Certificate in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Certificate in Business Management (CBM) or any other relevant Certificate from any accredited/recognized institution. Other equivalent qualifications include Foundation Certificates offered by Procurement and Supply Professionals and Technicians Board (PSPTB) and the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA).

Diploma in Business and Enterprise Management (DBEM)

This is a four semesters programme which is equivalent to two years.

Programme Objectives

This programme is designed to meet the needs of learners, future employees, and employers in the field of business and enterprise management but also designed in the aspect of demand and competence-based standards with the target of enhancing learners to have abilities to perform well in their works. This will enable the programme to produce graduates who are innovative, creative, and flexible to respond quickly to the social, job market and global environment. The holder of a Diploma in Business and Enterprise Management (DBEM) is enabled to apply skills and knowledge in a basic and medium range of work activities in entrepreneurship and business management.

Diploma in Human Resource Management (DHRM)

This is a four semesters programme which is equivalent to two years.

Diploma in Library and Information Science (DLIS)

This is a four semesters programme designed to orient students to various dimensions of locating, organizing and managing information and knowledge resources. It provides strong theoretical and experiential foundations from the community and employment demands for trained professionals in the field of Library and Information Science. Minimum entry requirements for this Diploma Programme are: Direct entry: NQF: Level 5 (Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education) with at least one principal pass and one subsidiary in History, Kiswahili, English Language, Geography, French, Economics, Accountancy, Mathematics, Commerce, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Nutrition. Equivalent entry: NTA Level 4 or any appropriate Basic Certificate passed at 2nd class and accredited by TCU.

Diploma in Business Information and Communication Technology

Diploma in Business Information and Communication Technology (DBICT) is a fulltime two-year program under semester system. Graduates of this program will be equipped with knowledge and skills in database designing and management, network design and management, systems analysis and design, software and application development, website designing and management as well as computer troubleshooting and maintenance. Graduates will be able to employ the acquired knowledge and skills in designing, managing and analyzing business applications as well as solving ICT-related business problems.

Applicants for Direct Admission to DBICT should be Form Six leavers with at least one principal pass and one subsidiary pass in Economics, Accounts, Mathematics, Commerce, Physics, and History/Biology/Chemistry/Geography, the sum of points should not be less than 2. Applicants with Equivalent qualifications should be holders of a one-year or more relevant certificate from recognized academic institution or professionnal examining board provided they have FOUR passes at O-level Secondary Education.
