I am deeply honoured to extend a warm welcome to all of you to the Department of Knowledge Management (DKM) at Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU). The Department is under the Directorate of Library Services (DLS) and one of the two departments of the Directorate. DKM is currently running two programmes, the Diploma of Library and Information Science (DLIS) and the Certificate of Library and Information Science (CLIS). Plans are underway to introduce a Bachelor of Library and Information Science program in the department. The department has highly qualified academicians in various areas of Library and Information Science (LIS). The infrastructure available at MoCU offers a conducive environment for students to carry on their studies. The library services available offer a wide range of library and information science materials. Lecture and seminar rooms are conducive for students to comfortably learn. Moreover, ICT facilities are also available, and students can communicate and access various materials online. The Department of Knowledge Management is working diligently to achieve our goals and aspires to become the leading provider of library and information science education.

Overview of the Department

This department is a major interface of the library collection and services to the users. The department is responsible for library collection management and development, circulation, bindery, and administration of services and materials.

Functions

Lending services for library items

Renewal of materials and issuing of fines to the defaulters

Coordination of the library services

Processing of the reservation requests in response to readers’ requests

Register new library members

Shelving, shelf-reading and sorting of library materials

Providing reference services

Conducting library orientation and guidance programme on the use of information resources

Marketing of information resources and services offered by the library

Developing and coordinating various information skills programmes

Advice and support on research projects and literature reviews

Evaluating and assessing library collection

Ensuring daily statistics are compiled

Conducting annual library stocktaking

Notify library users of new arrivals of library materials
