Program Overview

This is a one (1) year programme designed to provide a thorough basic training in law. The programme seeks to prepare law-conscious and law-abiding citizens who are also able to settle grassroots community disputes and address violations of fundamental rights. The programme exposes its students to laws and the system of laws applied in Tanzania, imparting basic knowledge on the making, interpreting, and execution of the laws.

Specific Objectives

The specific objectives are to:

  • Enable students to understand the basic principles and structure of the legal system in Tanzania.
  • Equip students with practical skills to handle grassroots community disputes.
  • Promote awareness and respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms.
  • Develop critical thinking and analytical skills in the interpretation and application of laws.
  • Prepare students for further studies and professional development in the field of law.

General Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must have obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent with passes in at least four (4) subjects, including English language.
  • Alternatively, admission may be offered to applicants with an average of 3.0 GPA in a foundation course obtained from the Open University of Tanzania.
