Dr. George Matto is a Senior Lecturer in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department. He holds PhD in Information and Communication Science and Engineering, M.Sc. in Computer Science, and B.Sc. in Computer Science (with honors). He has 17 years’ experience of working as academic staff within and outside the country. Within Tanzania, he has worked as academician in both public and private Universities. And outside the country, he worked with the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) under Norwegian’s Freskorpset Young Researchers fellowship for one year.

Dr. Matto has also been working with other Universities such as the State University of Zanzibar, the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology, the Institute of Accountancy Arusha, the College of Business Education, and the Mwenge Catholic University as external examiner and moderator. He has also been engaged with other institutions such as the Tanzania Cooperative Development Commission (TCDC) and the Institute of Judicial Administration Lushoto (IJA) to render his professional and expertise support.

Administratively, Dr. Matto is currently the acting Director of Research and Postgraduate Studies and Member of the University’s Tender Board. Being the Director of Research and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Matto is a Chair of two University Senate Committee meetings (Senate Postgraduate Studies Committee and Senate Research and Publication Committee). Prior to his current positions, he served as the Director of Library Services, Head of ICT Department, Head of ICT Unit, and Programme Coordinator for the Diploma in Business Information and Communication Technology. He also served as Assistant Quality Assurance Coordinator and Member of the Editorial Boards of University Journals.

Dr. Matto has successfully executed a number of research projects and consultancies. He also has more than twenty (20) peer reviewed scholarly publications which includes Journal articles, conference proceedings and a book. His research interests include database systems, data mining, text mining, pattern recognition, big data, ICT for Learning and ICT for Development. He has also successfully executed a number of research/innovation projects and consultancy assignments.
