Baltazar Namwata is an Associate Professor of Development Planning, Agricultural Education, and Extension in the Department of Community Development and Gender at Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU). Namwata holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the University of Dodoma, UDOM (2013); a Master of Science in Agricultural Education and Extension (2004), and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture General (2001) both from the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). Namwata has extensive teaching experience in many courses in the areas of urban and rural development planning, approaches to rural development; social science research methods; environmental communication and education; rural sociology and sociology of development; participatory development planning, design, monitoring and evaluation; social development planning; consulting and negotiation skills; project concept note and proposal writing skills; project planning and management; strategic planning and management; gender and development. Namwata has a wealth of research experience and expertise in various areas of urban agriculture; agricultural and commodity value chains; street begging and begging livelihoods; adoption and impacts of agricultural innovations; decentralization by devolution and service delivery; climate change mitigation and adaptation; gender and development; productivity of the agroforestry systems and household income; community development; agro-pastoralism livelihoods; cooperative development and management; and vulnerability and analysis. Namwata has published more than 60 journal papers, chapters in books, and other academic publications in both national and international spaces.

Namwata has been involved in more than 140 consulting assignments involving local government authorities (LGAs), Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), national and international organizations.
