Programme Overview

The Master of Cooperative and Community Development (MCCD) programme is offered in both full-time and evening modes. It prepares candidates for professional careers as cooperative and community development facilitators in the public and private sectors. This applied social science programme provides an understanding of the interrelated social, economic, and technical factors driving dynamic changes in communities and cooperative organizations. It emphasizes the management of cooperative and community dynamics, focusing on problem identification, resolution, and organizational change. Graduates will be equipped with the tools to evaluate the internal operations of cooperatives and communities and assist leaders in navigating development processes. The programme involves coursework and a dissertation over 18 months.

Specific Objectives

The specific objectives are to:

  • Prepare candidates for professional careers as cooperative and community development facilitators.
  • Provide an understanding of the social, economic, and technical factors influencing community and cooperative dynamics.
  • Develop skills in problem identification, resolution, and organizational change within cooperatives and communities.

General Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Cooperative, Community Development, Business, Social Sciences, Sociology, Education, Environmental Studies, Rural Development, Development Studies, Gender, Archaeology, Anthropology, Philosophy, Social Work, Health System Management, or related field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 2.7.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Professional Training qualifications such as CPA (T), ACCA, CPB, CPSP (T) with additional relevant training, evidence of research capability, and a minimum of two years of working experience.
  • At least a Second-Class Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution of higher learning in a relevant field of study.
  • A Pass Class at undergraduate level with work experience of not less than three years in a relevant field.
  • Relevant Professional qualifications plus a basic degree.
