Nicholas Ong’om, is lecturer in the Department of Community and Rural Development where he teaches various courses in the development field. He holds a Master of Arts in sustainable international development (SID) from Brandeis University and a B.A in Sociology from the University of Dar es Salaam. He joined MoCU towards the end of 2007 after a short period at PRIDE-Tanzania Ltd, a micro-finance NGO serving small-scale retailers in urban Tanzania. Mr. Ong’om has also worked as a part-time project officer for a church-based development office in Arusha, dealing in emergency-based appeals such as disaster mitigation and HIV/AIDS education among church members. Over the years, Mr. Ong’om has developed teaching skills and interests in areas of community interventions, organizational development for non-profit organizations and sustainable development. His areas of expertise are chiefly in international development, savings-led microfinance, poverty reduction, and results-based monitoring and evaluation.
